One of the most common mis-conceptions about power-washing is to “wait for a sunny day” and try to tackle the slippery patio or decking! This couldn’t be further from the truth!
The best time to power-wash is after a few days rain, when the mould/lichen/slime (whatever it is covering the surface) has had a few days to soak. It will then be easiest to get off!
If you have to power-wash during a dry-spell then you definitely need to soak the area you are washing for at least a few hours or else you will have to work three times as hard for half as good a result.
Always use the power-wash in a smooth and steady motion. If working with wood always go with the grain and not across it, but also be careful not to place the jet too close to the timber as this may cause water damage to the grain. It’s always best to start in a discreet corner and test the perfect nozzle to surface distance before starting work on the more prominent areas.
We find that most of our clients find power-washing fun for about …. .5 minutes…. After which the monotony gets to them and the novelty wears off!!!
